Professional athletes across the globe are quarantining in hotel and housing hubs together to prevent contamination from the outside world. The media has tabbed these hubs, "Bubbles," since the athletes and their respective teams will remain enclosed in the hubs until their teams lose, disqualify, and/or forfeit. Rules have been set in place that promote social distancing between teams, along with preventative measures keeping athletes in the hub and outside personnel from entering.
A new measure being used to prevent contamination are Kinexon's SafeZone Traceable Tags. These devices are worn by athletes and officials inside the hub, at their own discretion. They emit a loud "beep" sound when the proximity of one person to another has been broken. Kinexon's devices also allow the tracking and location of the individual wearing the them.
With concerns of privacy violations, the NBA has made it clear to its' players and officials that they will not be using the SafeZone tags to track specific GPS locations. They are strictly using the tags for COVID-19 contact tracing.
The NFL, however, has decided they will make it mandatory for their players, coaches, officials, and all media personnel to wear such devices while in the bubble. They will be provided during check-in and check-out of the bubble each day. It is assumed that the wearing of these devices will be involved in each player's contract.
